I am a regular contributor to assist in the work of this wonderful organisation. Recently I received a letter, reproduced below, regarding their need for donations to help the millions of Syrians now living in refugee camps. Please read the letter and help, if you can.
While some European leaders have responded to the unprecedented influx of people fleeing war with draconian solutions – closing borders, erecting fences and making deals to send people back – countries like Turkey and Jordan cannot simply push those who are desperate and suffering back across the border into Syria. They are now home to millions of refugees living in camps with poor access to healthcare.
Will you make a donation of $200 today so that we can continue to treat populations in distress?
In refugee camps in countries like Jordan, Turkey and South Sudan, women and children are especially vulnerable.
Earlier this year, Médecins Sans Frontières opened a clinic to provide health services to Syrian women living in Gazientep, southern Turkey.
“One of the biggest needs we identified regarding the Syrian population in Gaziantep was in child and maternity care, and we were aware that the Turkish government had a heavy burden in terms of meeting the health needs of this large population,” said Massimiliano Rebadengo, Médecins Sans Frontières’ Head of Mission in Turkey.
In the clinic, women are offered reproductive health services, family planning, gynaecology consultations as well medical checkups before and after they give birth.
The Médecins Sans Frontières clinic is open five days a week, and no appointment is needed. The team in the clinic has the capacity to see around 120 women per day. Paediatric care is being provided by another organisation.
Programs like this would not be possible without the generous support of people like you.
Médecins Sans Frontières works in over 60 countries responding to the urgent medical needs of populations affected by war, epidemics, natural disasters and medical emergencies.
Please consider making a donation of $200 today so that we can continue to treat people in urgent need.
